U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson on a visit to India, urged India to finalise the Nuke deal and the do something about the impasse on the Doha trade talks. India naturally mentioned to Paulson about their worries regarding both.
But the meeting was fruitful and Paulson indicated that a happy ending was on the cards and that one should not give up on either the Nuke deal or the Doha trade talks.

Is it raining Houses in the United states yet?

The Housing market has officially hit rock bottom and it seems that it is still going down. I guess that there is rock bottom and a whole new low beneath all that. With the recent subprime massacre, the credits have all been drying up. That is old news but taken together with the Recent home sales it does paint a very depressing picture. Of course there are many who say that the only way to go is up from now on but it seems that the Housing index has not heard that and is determined to set all sorts of record for all the wrong reasons.
Sales of existing home fell 8% while the number of unsold houses seem to be going up. As a result of the recent credit crunch, everyone is trying to make a quick buck while they still can. So as a result the housing prices are still high but that is all bound to change and change it will. Faced with this dismal real estate news, the prices are going to take a dive but the real question is whether it will entice the people to spend. Maybe if the Feds start cutting rates a lot, it may help. But any economist worth his salt will tell you that this is one ride we all have to take whether we like it or not. Maybe the ride will take us up but then again, it may take us all the way to the 'nether' regions. Either way I have bought the butter popcorm for this ride!

The best Credit cards - seriously??

We all have heard as to how good the credit cards are for us and that we should use them a lot. But the catch with credit cards is that as we use them more, we tend to spend more. Call it the "spend as much as you can" syndrome or call it anything you want to, but the banks and the corporates are all going out on a publicity blitz to make you 'want' to spend more using their cards.

Now we have a study done on which credit cards are the best and so on, come on, you have to be joking. The bottom line is that by and large most of the credit cards are actually bad for us and there are only a few that are okay. They are okay in the sense that they do not charge much of a service charge and that there is not much of a cutoff date for repayment so there is not much of a interest charge to begin with.

Take the Citibank card, if you have been using this card, then you know the way that it works. Every time you spend on it, you will incur a service charge and then if you fail to pay the principal within a very short amount of time, the interest due on the Principal will incur an interest itself. That is, they will charge you interest upon the interest that is due and that speaks for itself. So in the end, you will have to either take out some more cards to cover the charges due on the original one and soon, you will be floating in debt.

And when that happens, who will you approach for a loan, the bank that gave you the Credit card in the first place. So in the end, the credit cards, almost all of them, are good only for the banks that issue them. So take care!

Heap more profits, lesser price for oil!

With the markets being the way that they are, it seems that even the rats want to sell of their oil bonds and futures to make a quick buck. Probably the rat many not know that the very act of mass sell off's in oil bonds and futures is bringing down the price tag of oil, but hey I am happy that it is happening as I am sure that the rest of the world are. Of course, OPEC did not do much about the oil hike but then again since they all have a deeply personal stake in oil, i do not see what they could do. Of course they could have increased production by a huge margin, thereby impacting the price of oil , since huge supply leads to lesser demand and therefore to a lesser price. Had they done that they all could have saved the world a ton of worry, but they did not do that. There are times that I think that the OPEC is an antiquated organisation that needs to be re hauled totally.
Either way the price of oil is down and it is all because the markets are jittery and everyone wants to see some profits while it is still possible. Be that as it may, soon if the markets do not show some recovery and the plunge continues, then the profits will dry up and the oil surge will start all over again, this time aiming for new heights!

Microsoft gets battered down by Euro legals and slinks away!

We all either love or hate Microsoft and I am not going to tell you which one you should be. All i am saying is that this is something that Microsoft certainly deserved. In a way, taking the cue from the series "My name is Earl", if you do bad things, karma will make sure that bad things will happen to you . In the same way if you do good things, good things will happen to you. We all know what Microsoft has done in the past and it certainly is not something to be proud about. And now that they have been caught in the web of their own unfair business practises, well it is time to pay the piper, isn't it?
Microsoft has been fighting a rather and lengthy court case with the European courts which had held Microsoft guilty of 'unfair and unethical business practises'. What is more, they had fined Microsoft to the tune of 497 million euros ($613 million), which by the way is the highest amount fined on any organisation by the Euro courts. Naturally Microsoft had appealed against this decision and the court battles raged on. But is seems that Microsoft has decided to give up on its court battle with European courts of law and has decided to withdraw all complaints. In short, they are accepting the original verdict. Where does this leave Microsoft? Well it leaves them short of 619 million$ and that is one price tag that they are going to have to pay real soon. Hope that everyone has taken the lesson of the 'My name is Earl' from all of this!

The blog with the latest info on everything!

This blog has all the latest information on pretty much everything and it is so neatly organised. Personally, I would have used a different color as the background but that is my personal opinion. Lets just say that I am not much of a fan for anything to do with Brown or Beige. Getting back to the blog, I have learned some very valuable details regarding SEO which I intend to put into use as far as my blogs are concerned. For example, have you ever wondered about Brand management, well those queries that you may have had on that subject as well as related materials are all listed very neatly here. It is one thing to be blogging about subjects related to blogging itself but to blog on a whole wide spectrum of topics, I have to say that definitely makes this blog a pleasure to blog about!

Migration and the remittances that top 300 billion$

Migrants often seek greener pastures and then they settle down and seek ways of sending some of the benefits back home. This is all so true in the modern world. Today migrants go off to work at greener pastures [developed countries] and they send their profits home and this is what we call remittances. If you were to take all the remittances that the migrants managed to send home last year, well they reach a whopping 300 billion$ and that is a whole lot more than the financial aid being currently provided by the developed world to the lesser countries. The migrants have proved time and time again that they have the stuff and the perseverance to work harder which is why their talents are so widely respected by so many corporates like Microsoft.
The Migration of humans has been there for quite a while and it is this very same migration of the human species that has spread the human race to all corners of the world. We all came out of Africa in search of greener pastures and now we can all trace our roots all the way back to Africa. Today migration has taken a different form, it is driven more by purely socio economic factors than by mere socio factors as it was the case in that very first migration out of Africa. Today saw India top the list of having the most remittances sent by the migrants to home. India's remittances for 2006 stood at 24.5 billion$ and they managed to pip both Mexico and China for the top spot. What is interesting to note is that the Migrant remittance sis evolving the way that money transfers are made. Since most of the relatives of the migrants back home lack even a basic bank account, the money remittances are made using innovative methods for eg, some of the remittances have been made by using mobile banking methods. The migrants have always added value to the society at large and they have proved time and time again that they are as creative as the best of us!

But then again there are those of us who have a much serious addiction problem like the one with Drugs or with Alcohol. The Volatile markets!

The Mumbai stock markets has been seeing rather a volatile trading session today. The market has been in the grip of a rather furious bull run which had pushed the stock indices to new heights. The BSE itself had crossed the 19,000 mark. As a way of controlling further FII's into the markets the SEBI had announced that it may take a look at regulating the P notes. These 'p notes' are one of the ways by which the FII's dump their money into the markets.
As a result of that news, the markets crashed right away losing almost 1700 basis points and then the circuit breakers were hit and trading was suspended. After statements from the finance minister indicating that the 'p notes' were not being banned in any form, the markets recovered rapidly and then dropped all over again. Today , the markets closed down at 17,000 and odd, down by 717 basis points. The shares moved in a broad range of 17,771-19,198 levels before closing at 17,998 levels. Will the Bull still run the markets tomorrow and will it still be volatile?
Lets hope that tomorrow is a better day for the markets at large!

From weak to volatile!

The Indian markets opened up weak today and then saw a bit of volatile trading as the correction time has started.this was expected to happen for quite some time and this is one of the main reasons that the retail investors were asked to stay away from the market.as things stood,by 1 pm,the market had lost around 220 basis points but also saw some rather hectic recoveries being posted by some of the tech stocks.especially Infosys which had come out with the usual 'all is good and well' Q report.lets see how the rest of the trading session takes on!is the sleeping bear going to awaken??

The new Gen 'Portable DVD player'

The age of high tech is upon us and as such this is the age of portable DVD player.as such this DVD player is 10 inches and is Divx capable.so you can literally carry it and see what you want with it.now we no longer need to go home to the telly to test out our DVD players.this is fantastic, especially for the travelling person.often i end up travelling to the country and often complain when the rooms have no telly or even a basic entertainment system.well, all that is in the past now ,is it not, especially with the Digitalframez's 10 inch portable player?
With so many high tech gadgets available, one of the first things we should look out for is the price range.as such this player is priced at quite an affordable range and i am sure that we all can afford it quite easily.that said, the next thing that we should look out for is the 'sturdiness' of the gadget.there is no point in getting such a gadget if it is going to break down the next day itself,is it not? as such this player is not just affordable but it is also quite sturdy.i think that this is the perfect travelling companion, one we all cannot do without from now on.so my suggestion to you all, especially the ones who do a lot of travelling,to go to the link above and get the latest in all players, the Digitalframez's 10 inch portable DVD player and you cna even put it under your shirt and walk down the street!so what are you waiting for??
